Have a pint and a punt while the kids play at Mildura races

PARENTS in Mildura won’t need to book a babysitter in order to frock up and head to the races this Saturday – kids under 17 get in free leaving punters with more money to tip a winner!

And entry for adults is a gold coin donation with all proceeds going to the Mildura Base Hospital Foundation.

Trackside Family Day, organised by Country Racing, is the perfect way to see horses up close while your kids are entertained by free activities starting from midday.

And if mums and dads pick a winner with long odds, hiring a nanny for the rest of the year to help with the littlies might be on the cards.

Mildura Racing Club manager Jamie Layon said it’s a fun day out for families but stopped just short of offering a free babysitting service on the day for race goers.

“We have pony rides, jumping castles and face painting from 12 to 4pm and entry is only a gold coin donation which goes to the hospital,” he said.

“We have Nan’s Treats doing cupcakes and popcorn for the kids, plus Enjoy Catering who do chips, nuggets and drinks too.”

Mildura Cup weekend starts on Friday and is a fun, relaxed alternative to the Melbourne races which can be hectic and expensive.

And as it’s the last weekend of the school holidays, free kids activities will be on both days making it a enjoyable weekend for everyone.

Mr Layon also said there will be special treats available for families who get in early.

“The first 30 kids that come through the gate will get a country racing water bottle and bucket hat,” he said.
